Physical property: Six squares of Colorless column crystals, density are 2.36, insoluble in water.
Chemical property: It will decomposition and become magnesium oxide in 380°C. It is alkali and soluble in water part is the all ionization, produce Mg2+(50%),OH-(8%) (and[MgO2]2)-(or [Mg(OH)4]2-)and [MgO3]4-(or [Mg(OH)6]4-)(42%). We generally will dissolve in water and electricity from called metal cation and hydroxyl complexes and part of the hydroxyl hydroxides called alkali.
Application: Magnesium hydroxide can be used to produce environmentally-friendly halogen-based flame retardants, used to produce light weight high-purity magnesium oxide, heavy magnesium oxide of high purity, pharmaceutical grade magnesium oxide, food grade magnesium oxide, electrical grade magnesium oxide, silicon steel grade magnesium oxide and other high-end magnesium oxide products, but also used as a flue gas desulfurization agent, acid water neutralizer and so on in environmental protection.
