Using reflective, tinted, patterned, or low-e glass, IGU’s are produced by adhering an aluminum frame between two panes of glass using two layers of sealant (butyl rubber sealant and structural or polysulfide sealant). The space between the two panes is filled with dehydrated air or other gases, such as argon, which slows the heat exchange and also reduces noise levels. The aluminum spacer is filled with silica desiccant pellets to ensure removal of any moisture in the middle space.
