Active gurad bed materials can protect the main hydrorefining catalyst further to extend the cycle life of the catalyst.

AAG is a high void space active (Ni/Mo) bed grading material. It is a raschig ring shaped made for the purpose of providing a high void fraction particle on the top of hydrotreaters or hydrocrackers to either provide pressure drop relief, some filtration of impurities, and better flow distribution.
