Appearance: Colorless cubic crystal, common product is white flakes and powder or white porous, granules or honeycomb texture.

Property: Odorless and slight bitter taste. Relative density: 2.15(25°C). Melting point: 782°C. Boiling point: over 1600°C. Good moisture absorption ability and easily deliquescent when exposed to air. Easily dissolvable in water with large quantity of heat released, when aqueous solution is slight acid. Dissolvable in alcohol, acetone and acetic acid. Reacting with ammonia or ethanol will respectively generate complexes of CaCI2·8NH3 and CaCI2·4C2H5OH. After crystallization its aqueous solution will ordinarily separate out hexahydrate at room temperature, dissolved in the crystal water of itself when gradually heating to 30°C, gradually loses water if continue heating, turns dehydrate to 200°C and turns white porous texture of anhydrous calcium chloride when gradually heating to 260°C.

Purpose: It is used for melting snow and deicing on roads, highways, parking lots and docks, as the multipurpose desiccant, such as used for drying the gases of nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, hydrochloride and sulfur dioxide, etc and as the dehydrating agent for producing alcohol, ester, aether and acrylic acid resin. CaCI2 aqueous solution is the important cryogen for refrigeration machine and ice-making and also the good architecture antifreeze, which can speed up concrete solidification and increase ability to withstand cold of construction mortar. Beside, it can be used as the fog dispersal agent for harbors, the dust collection agent for the road surface and the fireproofing agent for the fabric. Moreover it is the protection agent for aluminum and magnesium metallurgy, the precipitator for lake dyestuff production and for deinking in waste paper processing. It is also the material for producing calcium salts. Calcium chloride solution is the flocculation agent in the field of seaweed sodium and soybean products.
