The Electroslag Casting technology(ESC) is developed on base of Electroslag Remelting(ESR) which has been widely used in metallurgical field as a kind of refining means, to improve the purify and improve material properties. Especially the high-demand forging piece, forging stock materials need to be remelted before forging.
ESC apply the theories of ESR, it makes refining and casting finish at the same time. It is not subjected to the restraint of cast castability and can produce castings with prime quality inside and complex profile, it also can replace the forging piece in some products, such as the internal-combustion engine bent axles for large-scale vessels, made by Russia, were manufactured by ESC.

Because of the advantages above, electroslag casting technology is being used in many large power stations. Some labeled this technology in the biding document to state that their projects must use electroslag casting technology, such as the three gorge project, Xi luodu and Xiangjiaba.
