Unlike typical PLC systems, the TWACS AMI system does not require equipment at each MV to LV transformer, resulting in lower installation and long-term operating costs. The communication equipment is securely located within the MV substation. The TWACS signals pass bi-directionally through transformers to read 100% of the meters that are supplied by an MV substation. Reads require only seconds and very large MV substations, with 100,000 or more meters, can be accommodated. Power outages can be swiftly assessed and restoration monitored on a real-time basis.
