 1. The Mechanism of MTBE

As an antiknock agent, MTBE will make addition effects with gasoline to raise octane number. MTBE can inhibit the cracking of alkanes in gasoline at the start of combustion. It has the significant trend of inhibiting the oxidation of aromatic hydrocarbons in gasoline. Thus the combustion lagging of gasoline becomes longer. MTBE can promote the burning of gasoline at the start of the combustion

2. Advantage

It will have a good compounding effect if blended with FCC gasoline, distilled one, alkylation gasoline.It makes gasoline burn more completely, increase octane rating as one oxygenate although dosages are very large.The steam of MTBE is heavier than air, and can spread easily on the ground. It can’t be decomposed under normal temperature, but be easily volatile and flammable.
