Operation Instruction for ATS Diesel Generator Set

This product mainly applies as a standby power supply. Its functions when external power network blacks out, and the controller engages the Gen-set automatically in seconds and continues to supply power for the users loads. When the external power source recovers, the controller stops the Gen-set and switches the users loads to external power network.

Because this product is highly automatic, its installation and debugging are comparatively complicated. Therefore, users are required to read this instruction carefully before any operations; otherwise it may make undesirable impact on normal start-up and operation of the Gen-set and even result in damages.

1.      PREPARATION PRIOR TO START UP

1.1    Inspect the lubricant of Gen-set and ensure it satisfies the requirements mentioned in the diesel generator operation instruction. If not satisfied, replace the lubricant with that of proper type and amount.

1.2    Inspect the diesel fuel and ensure its compliance with the requirements specified in the diesel generator operation instruction. If no compliance, replace it with right fuel type and sufficient amount.

1.3    Inspect the storage battery: the battery capacity shall be ≥24AH. Using multi-meter to measure battery voltage. If the voltage output is ≥12.5V, this indicates the battery is good. If the voltage output is ≤12V, this indicates the battery is power low and need re-charge or replacement.

1.4    Turn the MODE switch on the panel (serial number 3) to the manual operation position (For panel settings and/or load connection and power network incoming connection, refer to attached figure).

1.5    Connect the negative polarity wire of the battery.

START UP AND RUN IN

2.1    Ensure the abovementioned requirements are correctly satisfied;

2.2    Switch off the air circuit breaker (NO. 1) on the panel;

2.3    Turn the start-up key (NO. 5) clock wise to the START position so that the starting motor could start up the engine within 3-10 seconds. Turn the key to OPERATION position after startup and then the Gen-set is on power generating status.

2.4    Switch on the air circuit breaker (serial number 1) and the V-meter on the panel displays the magnitude of voltage.

If the startup process fails, repeat the procedure second or third times, with an interval of minimum 15 seconds. If all the 3 start-up trials fail, the fault indicator (NO. 9) will light up. Then it need to check and find out the fault cause, and remove the faults before next round of start-up.

2.5    Keep the Gen-set running idly for 5-10 minutes after successful startup.

2.6    Turn the start-up key (NO. 5) to the OFF position. The power accelerograph turns off automatically and the Gen-set shuts down. Trial operation is completed.

3        ATS SYSTEM CONNECTION

3.1  After the trail operation, do not make any change to the switch position settings on the panel.

3.2  Connect the electric apparatus (or load) into any OUTPUT receptacles on the panel (NO. 8).

3.3  Plug one terminal of the power (network) lead wire into 220V (or 240V) receptacle on the panel and connect the other terminal to the power network.

3.4  The lead wire section should be ≥2.5~4mm2. Please pay special attention to the connection of earth wire. Wrong connection will results in mal-function of the Gen-set and personnel safety hazard.

3.5  Switch the air circuit breaker (NO. 1) to the ON position.

3.6  Ensure all the incoming and outgoing lead wires are correct and turn the MODE switch (NO. 3) to the AUTOMATIC position. Thus the Gen-set enters automatic control status of the ATS system.

When the municipal network power input (NO. 4) is manually cut off, the Gen-set is able to switch on to operation immediately as per any requirements. When manually connected to the external power (NO. 4), the Gen-set will stop running according to advance programmes.

4        CAUTIONS

4.1  The Gen-set should be placed on a spacious area separately with good ventilation.

4.2  The Gen-set is to be located in a comparatively isolated place to prevent it from fault operation by casual access and touch of personnel and livestock.

4.3  For ambient requirements, please refer to Diesel Generator Operation and Maintenance Manual.

4.4  The sections of lead wires must be greater than 2.5 mm2~4mm2. The longer the wire is, the bigger is the section.

4.5  The Gen-set maximum load should not exceed 5kW; some surpluses are recommended.

4.6  In case an emergency stop or disengage from the system is required, turn the MODE switch (NO. 3) to MANUAL position and switch off the air circuit breaker (NO. 1). Thus the Gen-set disengages from the system and enters into the manual operation status.

4.7  The 1st debugging or disengaging from the system should be performed by licensed electricians or skilled technical worker. Do not allow unskilled operator to conduct trial operation in order to avoid unexpected accidents.

4.8  The Gen-set switch should be on OFF position (NO. 5) after the Gen-set is connected to the system.

4.9  The battery negative terminal must be disconnected immediately when the Gen-set is disengaged from the system, in order to avoid fault operations.

4.10  Maintenance must not be conducted before the Gen-set is disengaged from the system.

This product mainly applies as a standby power supply.It is highly automatic and intelligentize.
