Nature: Warm. 

Taste: Pungent, bitter. 

Organ: Spleen, Lungs, Stomach.

Preparation

The drug is subdivided into two classes, known respectively as "Chen Pi", and "Guang Chen Pi". The pericarp is peeled off when the fruit is ripe and dried in the sun or at a low temperature. 

Actions

Qi deficient, excessive phlegm, flatulence, belching, lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, loose stool.

Contraindications

•Contraindicated for those with dry cough due to Yin or Qi Deficiency.

•Contraindicated for those with Stomach Fire causing nausea and vomiting.

•Do not use with herbs that are warm, hot, aromatic or drying.

•Use caution for those with Heat from Excess (when the tongue is red).

•Use caution for those with Hot Phlegm, Dry Heat coughs, or spitting of Blood.

•Use caution for those with Fluid deficiencies.

•Long-term use can injure Yuan Qi.

•Contraindicated for those with spasmodic abdominal pain.

•Contraindicated for those with no Damp-Phlegm symptoms.
