Unwritten plain slate platter. You can use slate pencil or chalk on these boards to write names of cheeses etc. so they are suitable, not only for the home, but for restaurants and hotels too.

These are untreated slate but if you want a slight sheen to the boards, apply a light rubbing of edible oil. This also seals the boards to some extent.

Slate is a natural product with an uneven surface which may be ridged or veined, and the edges are deliberately chipped, rather than being perfectly smooth. These factors provide a pleasing rustic appearance which therefore complements a selection of artisan cheeses.
