SARS in 2003 was the first outbreak of a flue type organism. Now with bird flu, hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) and H1N1 flu, people are more concerned about microorganism contamination threats.

Since a laundry staff was infected by SARS in Taiwan in April 2003, many countries have carried out management control standard for linen laundry, which upgrade the requirements of risk control on the laundry process which include linen collection, conveying, sorting, washing, drying, folding and delivering.

Laundry centers receive large volume of contaminated linens which are easily the methods of spreading pathogen, especially those lines from hospitals, chemical factories and restaurants. The principle task of handling these contaminated linens is to prevent the infection of operating staffs as well as the environment, and then is to reduce the cost. Regarding the risk of handling the above mentioned linens, it is suggested to use the infection-prevented laundry collection bag which is an absolutely new method.

The advantage of infection-prevented laundry collection bag (hereinafter “The Bag”) are:

1. The Bag can be dissolved completely in hot water (different dissolving temperatures are available) so that the traditional way (e.g. incineration and landfill) of handling the highly infectious packaging waste from hospitals or chemical factories can be avoided and the cost is reduced.

2. The Bag does not need to be opened manually until the washing and drying cycles are completed. Full isolation can be achieved, which will reduce the risk of exposing the contaminated linens and danger of infecting the operating staffs and environment.
