It can tolerate higher voltages (up to 5.5V) polarization due to the passivation of can by electrolyte component (especially LiPF6 based electrolyte system) to form a layer of AlF3. This AlF3 is thin enough (several angstrom) to allow electron tunneling, and blocking the dissolution of Al3+ into the electrolyte.Please kindly read a testing report on this Al-Clad coin cell case by Dr. John B.
