In traditional medicine, N-Acetyl L-Cysteine can be used for many conditions and situations. The amino acid derivative can be used to reverse the effects of acetaminophen and is commonly used in patients who have carbon monoxide poisoning. Angina, bile duct blockage in children and Lou Gehrig’s disease patients also use N-Acetyl L-Cysteine. Other conditions that may benefit from N-Acetyl L-Cysteine include kidney disease, hay fever, chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, emphysema and cystic fibrosis.

There are no current studies or clinical trials being performed to study the potential effects of N-Acetyl L-Cysteine on weight loss or fat burn. The amino acid derivative has been tested, however, for its use as a treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and other mental conditions. If a dieter feels obsessed with eating food, they may find some benefit from taking a supplement with N-Acetyl L-Cysteine. pharmaceutical source/

At the heart of the effect of N-Acetyl L-Cysteine in the body is the production of glutathione. Glutathione is an antioxidant that can help combat the effects of free radicals in the body. Free radicals can cause damage to healthy cells in the body which may affect the way a dieter loses weight or how muscles repair after working out. Essentially, when a workout is complete, the muscles are torn and must repair in order to build larger muscles that burn more calories. If free radicals inhibit this process, recovering from a workout can take longer.
