Principle

Figure 1 illustrates principle wiring diagram of JS type counter. Figure 1 (a) is for the basic structure of JS type counter, the so-called double valve chip structure. When lightning arrester takes action, discharging current flow through valve slice R1, capacitor C is charged by the voltage drop which in R1 and through the valve slice R2, then the inductance coil L of electromagnetic type counter is discharged by C, make it rotate 1 case, record the reading. Change the resistance of R1 and R2, then the counter can be with different sensitivity. Generally, minimum operating current is the impulse current with 100 A (8/20 μ s). Because there is certain voltage drop in R1, the residual voltage of the lightning arrester can be increased, so it is mainly used for high voltage lightning arrester which is more than 40 kV. Figure 1 (b) is for the structure of the JS-8 type counter, which is the rectifier type structure. When the lightning arrester takes action, capacitor C is charged by the voltage drop on high temperature valve slice R1 and through full-wave rectifier, then electromagnetic type counter L is discharged by C, makes it count. The resistance of valve slice R1 of the counter is low (when it is 10 kA, the voltage drop is 1.1 kV), the flow capacity is high (1200 A square wave), minimum operating current is also the impulse current with 100 A (8/20 μ s). JS-8 type counter can be used for the lightning arrester with 6.0 to 330 kV system, JS-8A type counter can be used for the lightning arrester with 500 kV system.
