As the energy demand is increasing with the development of society. Solar energy acts as a green energy resource because of its high efficiency and non-exhaustion. Photovoltaic generating system has the features of no need for AC power supply, low and easy maintenance, noiselessness and security.

       Solar traffic light is widely applied to traffic control, which is powered by solar-cell panel and battery system. Solar traffic light system also has 220Vac input interface.

The system has a dimming function which works during cloudy day and nighttime. So the traffic light can work longer with less power consumption.

         The system is extended by mode of master-salve machine. Mater and slave machines communicate by date bus. The system can have 16 independent phase light groups. Each control cabinet can drive 5 signal groups. Each group has three signals of red, yellow and green. The phase of signal group can be set by dip switches.

1.2 Component element

        The system is modularization design. It is mainly composed of lamp pole, control cabinet, signal lights and power source unit.

2,  Control cabinet

 It consists of controller, AC charging module, lighting module and power supply circuit.

Controller is made up of power panel,control panel,driver board,communication board,transition board. Controller is modular design. It is connected by transition board between all circuit boards. It is easy to install and maintain.

Methods of communication

2.1Basic function

2.1.1 General function

a)  Control methods:

1) single-point and several time intervals control

 Control the vehicles release according to preset parameters.

2) Manual control

Light off, yellow lighting and step-by-step

3) Remote control( equipped with related modules)

The remote has many kinds of signal status output and manual/automatic identification.

      b) Time interval

It is classified by workdays, festivals, holidays and special days. Each day can be divided into 24 control time-intervals

c). Number of timing schedule: 48

d) At most 5 color step tables. The max step numbers of each color step table is 32.

e) Special working day: Max 10 special days

f) Festival and holiday: Max 10 kinds.

g) Save date: running parameters can not be lost when the controller power off.

h) Setting Parameter: Using laptop set the time schedule on line.

i) Yellow lighting: we can use specific interval yellow lighting and manual yellow lighting.

j) Automatic dimming: The controller can identify the surrounding light intensity and automatically dim the light.

k) Intelligent charge controller is characterized with protective circuit, which can protect against over charge and over discharge and can prevent power supply from being wrong connected.

1) Communication interface

 The controller connects with host computer, which is used for setting parameters and monitoring signal lights.

2.1.2  Start time-sequence

The controller has self-checking when it is power on, then it starts as following steps:

    a) First, signal phase starts from yellow flashing signal, 10s duration.

    b) Yellow flashing signal followed by red signal , 5s duration.

    c)  A controller will operate according to preset procedure after start time-sequence   .

2.1.3 Signal conversion

1,basic conversion sequence

a) Motor vehicle signal: red –green- yellow -red

b) Non-motor vehicle: red –green- yellow -red

c)Pedestrian signal: red-green-green flashing-red

2,Duration of signal:

a) Duration of green signal, red signal, green flashing of pedestrian signal can be set according to the real condition.

b) Duration of yellow flashing is adjustable, usually 3S.

2.1.4Prameter inquiry and parameter setting  We set control methods and adjust signal parameters through software of host computer. The controller can work according to stated controlling schedule and also can inquiry running status of signal and daily records.(see operation methods on <<Manuals of host computer of solar traffic lights>>

2.1.3 Dimming function

If required, the controller can adjust traffic lamps’ light intensity. It can dim the traffic lamp according to the surrounding light under the dimming mode.
