Sulfuric acid is used for dyestuff intermediate, pharmaceuticals, plastic, chemical fiber, tanning, detergent, paint, dehydrator and gas drying agent. Pure grades are colorless, odorless, clear oily liquid with strong acid. The industrial sulfuric acid in the market is colorless or yellowish, or even brick red. Relative density: The 98% grade is 1.8365(20°C), 93% grade 1.8276(20°C). Melting point: 10.35°C. Boiling point: 338°C. With great affinity to water, sulfuric acid can be mixed with water at any proportion and releases abundant heat in dilution process. Sulfuric acid is strong inorganic acid with strong corrosiveness. With active chemical, sulfuric acid reacts with nearly all metal and oxide and hydrate to generate sulfate. It also reacts with salts of other mineral acids. One should always add the acid to the water rather than the water to the acid to avoid explosion and acid blowout caused by overheated acid liquid surface. Reacting with metal, concentration below 76% emits hydrogen.
