back to the 14th century, and are popular around the world. Steins may be made out of stoneware (rarely the inferior earthenware), pewter, porcelain, or even silver, wood or crystal glass; they may have open tops or hinged pewter
lids with a thumb-lever.

4. How a Beer Stein and Its Lid Are Made?
How a beer stein is made?
1. The original Model
Create a clay model, which will be used as template for a mold.
2. The Rubber Model
To prevent any damage to the delicate model, the original clay model is replicated into
a rubber model, which is durable & flexible for the development of the gypsum model.
3.The Gypsum Mold
The gypsum form is used with a centrifuge to produce the steins.
4. The Centrifuge
The previous gypsum form is now mounted on the centrifuge and filled with clay. The
centrigugal force will force the clay into the mold and a new stein is born.
5.Glazing the stein
After the stein is removed from the gypsum form, craftman apply the base coat glaze
on the stein.
6. First Firing
The first firing is important as the hardness of the stein is depended on it.
7a. Decal Application
Decals are wet appplied to the steins, and will be bonded on the stein during the second
firing. So we can enjoy the decals for many many years.

It is critical to secure the bond of the decals or glaze with the steins.
