405 is ferritic stainless steel sheet ,because of their low carbon (.08 to .20%) and high chromiumcontents, do not harden to any appreciable extent when quenched from high temperatures. Theyhave a low coefficient of expansion and are highly resistant to atmospheric oxidation and stronglyoxidizing solutions. This group is adaptable to high temperature, chemical plant and outdoorapplications. An outstanding example of the latter is automotive trim. The ferritic grades aremagnetic and nonhardenable.
