General

According to technical requirement for cooling tower, the CNGP counterflow induced draft FRP cooling tower with reliable performance was selected, which gathers our designing and manufacturing experiences for many years and the most advanced technique of domestic and oversea cooling tower industries.

Tested by the authoritative institution, the mechanical performance of pultrusion FRP structural used in cooling tower could meet or exceed the requirement stipulated in national standards and codes.

The structure of cooling tower is designed by specific design software according to the actual requirements for the wind load, seism and othe loadings to ensure the reliability of cooling tower. Because FRP cooling tower is with the flexible structure, it is better to afford the seism even in the mostly occurred areas of typhoon and seism. (Through the structure checking and resonance analysis by the finite element analysis software of Tongji University, the wind load of our FRP cooling tower in Taiwan could reach at 230kg/m2 and the design seism could reach at 0.5G minimum).

Through the operation of this CNGP cooling tower, its structure is advanced; its all performance indexes could meet or exceed CTI standard and codes. Our CNGP was widely applied in the water recycling systems of Petrochemical, power, metallurgy and machinery industries because of the advanced performance and good quality.

General Design

As required by the requisition of cooling tower for this project, FRP structure counter flow cooling tower is proposed in this proposal. The beams, columns and main supports of cooling tower are made of the pultrusion FRP to be assembled, and all parts which may touch with water shall be made of the nonmetallic materials to prevent corrosion.

 

Structure Type

The FRP structure is used for the cooling tower frame structure. The structure including enclosure casing, fan deck and partitions shall be of FRP structure.

The uniformity of water distribution and the lower resistance of air are adequately considered while designing of the cross-section of beam and column to assure the strength and stability of tower.

 

Feature of Arrangement

Compact Structure: cooling tower cells in a row without any clearance, covering smaller space.Safe Access: Towers are equipped with one stairway at one end and a ladder with cage at other end so as to assure the convenience for normal maintenance of the cooling tower.Clean Appearance: A special water-discharge design on the fan deck, instead of free drainage design, is applied to discharge the rainfall so as to prevent the exterior wall from dirty and to keep the surface wall clean.Harmonious Color of Construction: The appearance color of cooling tower harmonizes with surrounding environment and equipment. The specified color by owner is available.

Maintenance

The convenient maintenance for the tower is fully considered in this proposal.Towers are equipped with one stairway at one end and a ladder with cage at other end so as to assure the convenience for normal maintenance of the cooling tower.An access door is designed on the fan deck, and a check-way to the fan supports platform is designed inside of the fan stack.

Design of Non-Metal (Anti-Corrosion)

When design of cooling tower, the corrosion problem is a focused question, which is key to the quality of cooling. In the normal design, the inner components are used of steel structure treated by anti-corrosion and the problem of corrosion can’t be solved completely. Its service life shall not be over 15 years even if the steel structure is strictly treated by process of anti-corrosion. The FRP structure cooling tower is proposed as the framework members in this proposal and the service life of concrete structure shall be 20 years.

 

To solve the corrosion problem completely, the components of cooling tower in this proposal shall be used of the non-metal material as far as possible, for instance, the structure and fan stack are made of FRP, the water distribution pipe is made of reinforced FRP/PVC, the filling, nozzle, and drift eliminator are made of plastic material. The service life of these plastic and FRP material shall be more than 20 years, furthermore, the application of non-metal also has the advantage that it can save the cost for maintenance due to without maintenance regularly.
