Principle of Operation
The wear and tear of conventional ball mill liners is due to the direct contact with pulp, abrasive medium, particularly the abrasion and electrochemical corrosion between steel balls and liners and ores. Such situation is quite different in alternatively arranged magnetic liners, which are mounted on the inner wall of the ball mill and form a curved-surface magnetic system that generates a sufficiently strong magnetic field on the surface. During the operation, crushed steel balls and magnetic minerals are absorbed onto the liner surface to form a protective layer against grinding steel balls. For initially mounted magnetic liners, the protective layer may be shaped up by manually adding crushed steel balls, crushed irons or iron power, which may vary between 20mm and 30mm in terms of thickness. Because the protective layer is firmly absorbed onto the magnetic liner surface, it prevents the direct contact between grinding medium and magnetic liner, and therefore greatly weakens the effect of mechanical wear and electrochemical collision the grinding medium has on the liner and prolongs to a great extent the life of these liners. So the magnetic liner is also called the “liner never worn out”. Generally, the magnetic liner has a service life several or even dozens of times more than that of a Hadfield's manganese steel liner.
Materials
To ensure product quality, the magnetic liner we produce is drawn with special attention on material selection.
1. Material and Production Process of Metal Casing
The material used for the metal casing is special non-magnetic steel that was proprietarily designed by us, which is formed by adding some necessary metal elements onto the special alloys for military use, and able to resist abrasion, acid, alkali, and corrosion, has high magnetic permeability and causes no impedance to magnetic force. It can form a protective layer that has a sufficient strength and thickness to ensure its guaranteed service life. Non-magnetic steel is cast by EPC (evaporable pattern casting under vacuum) process that enables the metal to have compact and homogenous element arrangement, accurate external dimensions, and guaranteed contact between the magnetic liner and the drum up to 95%.
2. Magnetic Materials
The magnetic materials we use are the result of strict selection process. Based on years of experience, we use magnetic materials that have stable performance and reliable quality to ensure product quality. Moreover, some strong magnetic elements such as Nd, Fe, and B are added into vulnerable parts.
3. Waterproof Glue
We use a kind of imported waterproof glue whose waterproof strong adhesion can bind the magnetic block and the protective layer together firmly.
Performance:

4-6 years for iron ores secondary and tertiary grinding, and 2-4 years for ferric ores secondary and tertiary grinding
2. It is light in weight, equivalent to 40-50% of manganese steel liner, and therefore cuts the power consumption of the ball mill by 7-10%.
3. Compared with the ball mill with manganese steel liner, it cuts the power consumption down by 7-10%.
4. It prevents ore leakage, bearing bush grinding, and magnetic clustering on the ball mill.
5. It is easy to install and can be erected up usually in one day to reduce labor intensity.
